I will be spending quite a bit of time in the round pen with him.  I am not a big fan of round pens, but it is the best I have, I would much prefer a square pen, but those are very uncommon in North America and I do not own my own facility.  The pen I am using is a 50 foot John Lyons round pen made of aluminum.  It is actually very good quality and very light and easy to set up.  The size of the round pen is very good for helping the horse get over his fears of people.  It allows me to spend a lot of time near him, but it also allows him to feel like he can get away from me if he wants.  As we begin to negotiate our relationship, we begin to each each other vocabulary that we will use to communicate our fears and desires.
